Making the Move Checklist

Start saving money for rent, furniture, groceries, and other living expenses related to moving into a new house.
Review and understand the lease agreements, including terms, conditions, and responsibilities.
Consider purchasing renter's insurance to protect personal belongings in case of theft, fire, or extreme Michigan weather events.
Create a budget that accounts for rent, utilities, groceries, transportation, and other living expenses.

Update contact information with MSU Registrar, banks, and employers to ensure smooth communication and mail delivery.
Take inventory of valuable items and photographing them for insurance purposes.
Communicate with potential roommates about move-in dates and coordinate schedules to ensure everyone is available to help with the move.
Start researching and purchasing any necessary furniture or household items that will be needed in the new house.
Start packing non-essential items that won't be needed immediately in the new house.
Begin planning transportation logistics for the move, including renting a truck, hiring movers, or coordinating with friends or family for help.
Take some time to relax and enjoy the summer before the busy transition to off-campus housing!
By taking these steps during the summer before moving, Spartans can effectively prepare for their first off-campus living experience and minimize any last-minute stressors.
